Teen Rider Smashes Distance Record on a Single Battery

At just 15 years old, Sunshine Coast rider Malakai Lamby has made waves with an extraordinary feat — travelling 67 kilometres on a single battery charge on his Fliteboard. His ride from Golden Beach to Noosa beat the previous distance mark by a massive 20 kilometres, cementing him as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.

Malakai wasn’t alone in the adventure. Coast Guard volunteers, local boaties and fellow Fliteboarders joined parts of the journey, creating an atmosphere of community and support. “I only saw one Fliteboarder at Noosa, then suddenly about 20 of them popped up out of nowhere — it was really crazy,” Malakai said.

Along the way he also shared the ocean with dolphins and whales, adding a touch of magic to the record-setting ride. His mother, De Lamby, who first introduced him to the sport, said she was proud but not surprised: “I was just like, ‘I hope he makes it’ — and he absolutely smashed it.”

Fliteschool Noosa instructor Michael Wallent said the achievement will inspire more people to take up the sport: “To conserve battery you need to fly high and ride steady — it’s not easy. For Malakai to go that far at his age is pretty incredible.”

Although not an official Guiness World Record, Flite Australia are proud to recognise the ride as a new record for distance travelled on a single charge - a milestone that reflects both Malakai’s drive and the performance of the latest Fliteboard technology.

And it wasn’t just the attention of Fliteboard that Malakai grabbed, he also made the national news.

Malakai has only been Fliteboarding for 3 years after having been introduced to it by his mum.

“This is just the beginning,” Malakai said with a grin. “I want to go even further next time.”

For his record breaking attempt he rode a Series 2.2 Fliteboard ULTRA with Flite Jet 2 eFoil propulsion system, a FLUX 1010 front wing and a Flow 245C Stabiliser. His battery was an experimental, extra large Flitecell Explore which remarkably still had 18% capacity at the end of the ride – and bodes well for any future attempts.

At Flite, we believe in the freedom to explore, the thrill of performance, and the joy of innovation. Malakai’s record-breaking ride is a powerful example of how the next generation is embracing that spirit — pushing boundaries, inspiring community, and showing the world what’s possible when you Find Freedom, Take Flite.
